Bahamas 50 photography competition
Overview:
Scotiabank has partnered with the Guardian Media Group to host a national photography competition in celebration of 50 years of independence in The Bahamas, Photographers would be required to submit photos taken in The Bahamas with their interpretation of the sub-themes and in celebration of the 50th Anniversary.
Deadline: Wednesday, August 30, 2023
Judging Period:
General Entries -Thursday, August 31, 2023 – Sunday, September 10, 2023
People’s Choice Voting - Friday, September 15- Friday, September 22, 2023
Eligibility Categories:
- Youth A – Ages 6-12 years before December 31, 2023 (with Parent or guardian written permission)
- Youth B- Ages 13-18 years before December 31, 2023(with parent or guardian written permission where required)
- Amateur – 19 years and above *
- Professional – All Ages, not entered in other categories (parent or guardian written permission required when entrant under 18 years of age at the time of submission)
Please note that employees of Scotiabank and its respective parent company, subsidiaries and/or those living in the same household of said employees and the immediate family members of Scotiabank employees (spouses, parents, children and siblings and their respective spouses), are not eligible to participate and the employees of the Nassau Guardian and its subsidiaries and their immediate family members are likewise NOT eligible.
Theme:
The overarching theme of the competition is One Nation. One Legacy. Our Future – to coincide with the National theme for the 50th Anniversary.
For the purpose of judging, each category will be divided as per sub theme below.
Sub Themes:
- Our Nation - Photos should capture an interpretation in relation to life, culture, people/characters, experiences, infrastructure, natural resources, and people of The Bahamas.
- One Legacy - Photos should capture an interpretation in relation to historic elements of life, culture, people/characters, infrastructure, natural resources, and experiences in The Bahamas.
- Our Future- Photos should capture an interpretation in relation to futuristic elements of life ,culture, people/characters, infrastructure, natural resources, and experiences in The Bahamas.
Winners:
A total of twelve (12) winning photos will be selected.
Three (3) cash prizes will be allotted per entry category – one(1) for each sub theme. Where there are no entries for any sub theme, the prizes will be allotted to another sub theme at the sole discretion of the organizers.
Of the top twelve (12) selected photos , one (1) Scotiabank People's Choice will be awarded after winning photos are shared on Scotiabank and The Guardian Media Group Social Media Platform
Contest Rules:
Please read these rules (the Rules) before submitting your photo(s) to Scotiabank/Nassau Guardian Bahamas 50th Anniversary photography competition. By participating in this contest, you understand, acknowledge, and unconditionally agree to abide by the following rules.
BASIC SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES FOR PHOTOGRAPHS
- The contests are open for online submissions only to the approved portal hosted on The Guardian Media website.
- Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.
- Photos submitted must be at least 640 pixels on the shorter side, and no more than 2000 pixels on the longer side. Images should be no larger than 2MB. Photos must be in JPEG format.
- You may submit only one (1) entry per age/competence category and celebration theme . Each entry must be submitted individually with appropriate labelling.
- You are required to provide a unique title & description for each image submitted.
- Photos that have won previous awards or in anyway formally published prior (digital media or in print) are not eligible. Photos previously shared on personal social media pages will be accepted.
- All submitted photos must contain the original EXIF metadata information. However, there must be no border(s), logo(s), copyright marks, identifying marks, or any other visible references and/or marks on the image.
- Basic editing, including colour enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the Photo(s) is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity and/or genuineness of the photo(s).
- Advanced editing used to create illusions, deceptions and/or manipulations, and the adding and removing of significant elements within the frame is prohibited.
- Every image submitted will be subject to a moderation process before it becomes eligible for judging. The Parties reserve the right to assess and disregard any submitted photo at their discretion.
- Photos with images of persons other than the entrant must have permission of that person (s). In the event a photo with an image of a person other than the entrant is selected by the judging panel as a winner, written proof of that persons’ consent must be provided. Failure to provide said proof on request will result in disqualification.
- Photos that portray or otherwise include inappropriate and/or offensive content, including nudity, violence, human rights and/or environmental violation, and/or any other contents deemed to be contrary to the law, religious, cultural & moral traditions, and local cultural practices, are strictly prohibited and will be immediately discarded.
- All contestants or guardians (in the case of minors) will be required to sign an agreement acknowledging the terms of the competition and provide current contact information including legal name, address, email address and a contact number.
The Judging
- The Parties will appoint a panel of judges comprising of members of the Nassau Guardian editorial team , Scotiabank Employees, and external judges.
- The judging panel shall assess and determine the winning Photos. The results and the winners will be announced by September 7, 2023.
- The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding on all Participants in respect to all matters relating to the Contest.
- The Parties reserve the right to call for original JPEG or RAW files with unchanged EXIF for the purpose of authentication. An image may be disregarded if this information cannot be provided.
Prizes:
To accept a prize, prize winners must provide formal legal identification.
- A cash prize will be presented as advertised
- The winner’s name may be published in the media. By participating and accepting a prize the winner agrees to the use of his or her name, image in videos and photographs without compensation in any forthcoming publicity by the Parties. If disagreement is expressed, the prize may be forfeited.
- All winners must consent to (i) participate in all publicity efforts including an awards ceremony arranged by the Parties (ii) the use of their names and photographs without compensation in any forthcoming publicity by the Parties.
- If the winner declines to fulfill these conditions to collect the prize, their eligibility will be voided, and another winner will be selected. All unaccepted prizes will be retained by the providing respective party.
- Any state/ provincial/ territorial, and/or local taxes, fees and surcharges and taxes (whether foreign or domestic and including income tax) on any prize that may be awarded will be solely paid by you.
Prize Notification:
The Bank and the Nassau Guardian or designated representative will make a minimum of three(3) attempts to contact the eligible Prize winners within three(3) business days of the Selection Date by telephone / email. If the eligible Prize winner (s) cannot be contacted within three(3)-business days of the Selection Date, or if there is a return of any notification as undeliverable; then he/she may, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Bank and Nassau Guardian, be disqualified (and, if disqualified, will forfeit all rights to the Prize)
Intellectual Property Rights :
- Submitted photos must be original, created and/or taken by the contestant. It must not contain any materials owned or controlled by a third party for which you have not obtained a license, must not infringe the copyright, trademark, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity.
- The Parties respect photographers’ copyrights and copyrights shall remain vested with the creator of the image. Upon making the submission, you grant Scotiabank and the Nassau Guardian, worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty free, sub-licensable right and license to use, publish, reproduce, display, perform, adapt, create derivative works, distribute, have distributed, print, in whole or in part, in any form, in all media forms now or hereafter known, to promote the contest, image, the photographer or for editorial or educative use.
- The Photographer will be credited wherever the image is used.
Liability
- You hereby hold harmless, release, indemnify and discharge Scotiabank and the Nassau Guardian and its partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers and representatives from all liability, claims, judgments, demands, controversies, agreements, damages, actions and causes of action whatsoever, arising out of or related in any way to the contest or the conduct of the contest and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded, whether in law or in equity, no matter what the cause or nature, and You further waive any claims that you may state or assert against Scotiabank and the Nassau Guardian in association with the contest or any of its associated activities, or in any way related to or resulting from the contest even if such injury or claims results from or is caused by the negligence or gross negligence of Scotiabank and the Nassau Guardian, in whole or in part, due to human error or otherwise. You further agree to indemnify and hold harmless Scotiabank and the Nassau Guardian from any claim arising out of your participation in the contest including, without limitation, all claims brought or asserted by any third party as a result of any injury or loss that You or they may sustain in any way associated with your participation in the contest.
- Under no circumstance will Scotiabank and the Nassau Guardian be liable for any: a) lost, late, misdirected, stolen, illegible or incomplete Submissions b) error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, submitted Photo(s); c) problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, email, players or browsers, on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any website, or on account of any combination of the foregoing; d) incorrect or inaccurate information, caused by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of the Photos and/or the Submissions; and/or e) injury or damage to any Participant or to any computer related to, resulting from or in connection with the Contest.
- If, for any reason, the contest is not capable of being conducted as anticipated, due to computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Parties, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the contest, the Parties reserve the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest as deemed appropriate, disqualify any Participant, and/or select winners from all eligible Photos submitted prior to the termination, cancellation, modification or suspension. The Parties reserves the right to correct any typo-graphical, printing, computer programming or operating errors at any time. By entering this Contest, each entrant expressly consents to the Bank and the Nassau Guardian, its agents and/or representatives, storing, sharing and using the personal information submitted only for the purpose of administering the Contest. The Bank and the Nassau Guardian will not use and/or disclose any personal information obtained for any purpose other than this Contest. Entry into the contest confirms a formal arrangement between the Bank, the Nassau Guardian and the contestants. In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, including, but not limited to, , radio, print or online advertising and/or any instructions or interpretations of these Rules given by any representative of the Bank and the Nassau Guardian, the terms and conditions of these Rules shall prevail, govern and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.
