Scotiabank contributes $50,000 to Hands for Hunger’s Paradise Plates 2024

Returns as presenting sponsor

Nassau, Bahamas – October 9th, 2024 – Scotiabank Bahamas proudly announced its return as the presenting sponsor of the highly anticipated Hands for Hunger’s Paradise Plates fundraising event, contributing $50,000 to support Hands for Hunger’s vital feeding programs.

The event, held on September 21, 2024, at the Atlantis Imperial Ballroom, welcomed over 2,000 guests and serves as a cornerstone in the fight against hunger in the Bahamas. All proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships directly supported Hands for Hunger's crucial programs.

Roger Archer, VP & Managing Director of Scotiabank Bahamas, expressed the Bank’s continued commitment to this cause: “We were proud to partner with Hands for Hunger once again for the Paradise Plates event. At Scotiabank, we understand that supporting the communities where we operate is critical, especially during times of increased economic hardship. Our sponsorship directly contributed to feeding families in need, and it’s an honor to be part of such a meaningful initiative once again.”

Hands for Hunger currently supports over 5,000 families through its pantry, with programs that include 15 school pantries, food rescue efforts benefiting more than 40 local agencies, and community markets—all aimed at providing essential nourishment to those facing food insecurity. The funds raised from Paradise Plates are crucial to maintaining these feeding programs, which impact thousands of Bahamians. Keisha Ellis, Executive Director of Hands for Hunger, emphasized the importance of this support, stating, “Scotiabank’s sponsorship will go a long way in ensuring that we can continue to provide food to families in need through our H4H Pantry, H4H School Pantries, and our Food Rescue efforts. We are incredibly thankful to Scotiabank for their ongoing support. Their generosity strengthens our ability to fight hunger and food insecurity, creating a profound and lasting impact on many lives.”

In addition to its sponsorship of Paradise Plates, Scotiabank is wholeheartedly dedicated to supporting Hands for Hunger throughout the year. Na-amah Barker, Director of Retail Banking and Small Business at Scotiabank Bahamas, spoke on the Bank’s commitment: “At Scotiabank, we see our role as more than just business; it’s about fostering a sense of community and belonging. We genuinely care about the well-being of our neighbors, and partnering with Hands for Hunger allows us to make a real difference in their lives. We are proud to stand with them in their mission to ensure no one in our community goes hungry.”
