Terms & conditions

The following definitions apply to these Terms and Conditions:

  • “Cardholder” means the primary cardholder of an eligible credit card.
  • “Promotional Period” refers to the period from August 19th, 2024 to September 30th, 2024.
  • “Promotion” refers to this promotion and not to any of the Bank’s other promotions or programs.
  • “Eligible” refers to qualification to participate in this Promotion.
  • "Purchases" means any retail, internet, phone or mail order purchase or Point of Sale transaction.
  • “Eligible Purchases/transactions” means any retail, internet, phone or mail order purchase or Point of Sale transaction not including returns/credits or any fees and/or bank charges.
  • “Minimum Spend Requirement” means the predetermined minimum transaction amount which must be met by making eligible purchases or performing eligible transactions using the Cardholder’s Scotiabank Amex Platinum credit card.
  • “Eligible credit card” refers to the Scotiabank Amex Platinum credit card.
  • Reward” refers to the prize a Cardholder receives when he/she is selected as a winner in the promotion.
  • “Good Standing” means that the Cardholder’s account is not overlimit or past due by any amount.
  • "Scotiabank" or “the Bank” means Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited 

This Promotion is opened to legal residents of Bahamas who are 18 years of age or older. These terms and conditions shall be governed by the applicable laws of the named country.

How to Participate/ Prize:

  • During the Promotional Period Cardholders from Bahamas will receive one (1) entry for every Eligible Purchase/Transaction which meets the minimum spend requirement outlined below and five (5) entries for creating an Installment Plan as also outlined below. There is no limit to the number of entries a Cardholder may receive during the Promotional Period.

For every new Scotiabank Amex Platinum credit card account opened and activated during the Promotional Period, the Cardholder will receive two (2) entries once the minimum spend requirement is met within the Promotional Period by making eligible purchases or performing eligible transactions, while still earning one (1) additional entry for each time an eligible purchase is made or an eligible transaction is performed during the Promotional Period which meets or exceeds the minimum spend requirement outlined above.

Create a New Instalment Plan (Select Pay) with a minimum term of six (6) months, and a minimum Principal Balance of US$300 or equivalent in local currency to receive three (3) entries for a chance to win the reward.

For example, if an existing Amex Platinum credit card Cardholder in Jamaica performs three (3) transactions: one for JM$40,000, another for JM$75,000 and another for JM$80,000, this Cardholder will receive two (2) entries – one (1) for the spend of JM$75,000 and the other for JM$80,000.

Should a Customer in The Bahamas open and activate a new Scotiabank Amex Platinum credit card and complete two (2) transactions: one for BSD$500 and another for BSD$600, this Customer will receive four (4) entries – two (2) entries for opening the new credit card account and meeting the minimum spend requirement, one (1) entry for the spend of BSD$500 and the other for the spend of BSD$600. The two (2) entries to be earned from opening and activating a new Scotiabank Amex Platinum credit card can only be earned if the Customer completes at least one (1) eligible purchase or transaction which meets or exceeds the minimum spend requirement during the Promotional Period.

• Each entry will qualify the Cardholder to be entered to win an All-Expense paid trip to the 3-Day Amex Brazil Formula 1 Grand Prix 2024, for the Cardholder and one (1) person of the Cardholder’s choice.

Prize Info

  • A package for two persons to travel to Brazil (the winner and a companion) for four (4) nights and five (5) days, including tickets for two (2) persons to watch the Amex Brazil Formula 1 Grand Prix 2024.
  • Two (2) airline tickets, roundtrip economy class, from the Cardholder’s territory of residence to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
  • Hotel Accommodation for two (2) persons at Emiliano´s Hotel in a double room (Deluxe King category) for four (4) nights and five (5) days, daily breakfast included.
  • Ground transfers from the Airport in Brazil to the Hotel, from the Hotel to the Amex Suite where the Grand Prix is being hosted and from the Hotel to the Airport.
  • Three (3) days’ access to the Amex suite in Grand Prix de F1 Brazil.
  • Access to F1 Experiences - Pit Lane walk & track tour.
  • Spending Money of USD$500 or equivalent credited to the winner’s Scotiabank Amex Platinum credit card.
  • The number of winners per country is also noted in the table below.

Eligibility

  • This Promotion is open to legal residents of Jamaica and The Bahamas aged 18 years of age or older, who open and activate a new Scotiabank Amex Platinum credit card with the exception of employees of the Bank, its respective parent companies (The Bank of Nova Scotia and Bank of Nova Scotia Group) and subsidiaries; their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children, siblings and their respective spouses) and/or those living in the same household as any of these employees. Employees of the Bank’s advertising and promotional agencies, as well as their immediate family members, relatives and/or those living in the same households are also not eligible to participate in the Promotion.
  • Eligibility is restricted to selected Cardholders whose accounts are still active at the time of the draw, are in good standing and have not been frozen or closed.
  • All Eligible Purchases/Transactions will be considered toward the earning of entries. There are no limits to the number of entries a Cardholder may receive. All purchases/transactions in local and USD currency are eligible.
  • Transactions from unauthorized card use or those made with lost, stolen or fraudulent Scotiabank credit cards will be considered void in the matter of this Promotion.

Draw Prize

  • The draw for the prize will be done on Monday October 7th, 2024 at 11 A.M. by the Regional Marketing Unit at Corner of Duke and Port Royal Street, Kingston, Jamaica.
  • The allotted number of winners will be randomly selected from an electronic Customer database with qualifying entries using a randomizer. Four (4) entries per country will be drawn as back-up winners.

Draw - Consumer Disclosure / Notification of winners

  • Attempts to notify the winner will be made by telephone, three (3) times within three (3) business days from the date of the draw. Should the Bank be unable to speak to the winner by telephone within the aforementioned period another winner will be drawn from the back-up winners in their stead. After being notified by telephone, an email will be sent to the winner. The winner will then be required to provide proof of their age and sign an Affidavit of Eligibility/Prize Acceptance and Release within five (5) days of the email notification to be confirmed as a winner. The winner will also be required to provide proof of ownership of the eligible credit card that was used to win the prize. A valid form of national identification must also be presented to collect the prize. For example, National ID card, Passport or Driver’s License.
  • If the winner declines to fulfill these conditions to collect the prize, their eligibility will be voided, and another winner will be drawn from the back-up winners in the order they were selected. All unaccepted prizes will be retained by the Bank.
  • Contact will be attempted using the Cardholder’s telephone number as found in The Bank’s records. If the winner cannot be contacted by telephone within three (3) business days of the draw date the Bank has the right to offer the prize to a back-up winner.
  • The winner’s name may be published in the media. The winner must agree to the use of his or her name and photographs without compensation in any forthcoming publicity by Scotiabank or the prize may be forfeited.
  • The dates of travel will be from October 31st, 2024 to November 4th, 2024.
  • The winner and his/her guest are responsible for complying with and/or meeting the requirements to gain entry to Brazil, such as the required valid travel documentation necessary to gain entry into the country. As such, at the time of being notified of the prize, the winner and his/her guest must have valid passports with at least six (6) months’ validity beyond the travel dates (i.e. not expiring on or before April 30th, 2025).
  • Any winner who, at the time of being notified of the prize, does not have a valid passport with at least six (6) months’ validity beyond the travel dates automatically forfeits the prize and another winner will be drawn from the back-up winners in the order they were selected.
  • No assistance with respect to any required visa or other entry application or processing services will be provided and should not be expected/considered as part of the prize.
  • The winner and his/her guest will therefore be responsible for any Visas, taxes, tips, insurance and expenses not explicitly stated as part of the prize, and must agree to release, discharge and hold the Bank harmless from and against any and all claims, losses, injuries or damage resulting from participation in the Promotion.
  • The prize cannot otherwise be redeemed or exchanged for cash or any other form of credit.

Exclusions from the Prize: The following costs and/or expenses are to be borne by the Winner and his/her guest:

  • Any other incidental travel expense(s) not specifically mentioned above. Ground/air/rail transportation not specifically mentioned above (including transportation to and/or from the Winner’s and/or the guest’s homes).
  • Any costs associated with the dispatch/ delivery of passports and/or travel visas.
  • Sightseeing tours and other in-destination activities not specifically mentioned above.
  • Travel related fees/surcharges (including, but not limited to, additional baggage fees, airport improvement fees, taxes, etc.).
  • Long distance telephone calls, room service, laundry service, mini-bar items, loss of hotel property, payment for damage to hotel property, or any other expense incurred at the hotel.
  • Transportation during winner’s and guest’s free time outside of scheduled activities.
  • Excess baggage or overweight fees.
  • Costs associated with obtaining necessary vaccinations.
  • Items of personal nature / personal expenses.
  • Additional meals.
  • Room upgrade.
  • Tips & gratuities.
  • Medical assistance.
  • The winner must provide all necessary personal and travel information in advance about his/her companion, who must also comply with the terms of these exclusions.
  • Scotiabank will not be responsible for any changes that occur in the aforementioned prize.
  • In the event of cancellation of the prize, Scotiabank is released from all liability and will not apply any refunds or compensation to your account in this regard, nor can the prize be exchanged for cash.
  • The use of your Eligible credit card to make purchases constitutes your consent to participate in this Promotion and your consent for The Bank to obtain your name, address and other information for the lawful purpose of administering this Promotion. Scotiabank reserves the right, with consultation and approval from the relevant Gaming Commissions (as applicable) to void any and all entries of an entrant who Scotiabank believes has attempted to tamper with or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of this competition.
  • This Promotion is a limited-time promotion which will run from August 19th, 2024 to September 30th, 2024.
  • A Cardholder will not be allowed to invite additional guests to the zone reserved at the Sao Paulo Circuit during the Grand Prix, or for dinners reserved for the winner and the one (1) named guest at the Hotel.
  • A Cardholder’s reward earned through participation in this Promotion will be forfeited in the event that the Cardholder ceases to be a Cardholder at any time during the Promotion.
  • The prize is not transferable and is subject to change, with approval from the relevant Gaming Commissions (Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission in Jamaica, and the Gaming Board for The Bahamas in The Bahamas) as applicable.
  • The prize must be accepted as awarded.
  • The Bank will not be responsible for changes to the prize which result from circumstances outside of its control.
  • Scotiabank will issue no representation or warranty in respect of the prize.
  • The winners and his/her guest must have any necessary vaccines required for entry to Brazil.

In all matters relating to this Promotion, the decision of the Bank shall be final and binding in all respects, subject to the approval from the relevant gaming authorities.

Scotiabank has the right to exclude any individual from this Promotion in its absolute discretion without any obligation to provide notice or reason.

Scotiabank reserves the right in its absolute discretion to vary the terms and conditions of this Promotion or to change or withdraw this Promotion at any time without giving any reason. In the event of a dispute arising from this Promotion, the Bank’s decision is final.

These terms and conditions apply only to this Promotion and do not apply to any of the Bank’s other promotions or programs or any other promotion or program in conjunction with the Bank and any other entity or brand.
