How do I register for Internet Banking?

Registering for Scotia OnLine is easy. Once you are registered, you can make your accounts accessible through Scotia OnLine.

Why is my bank account no longer offered? How does this change affect me?

Scotiabank is always offering new accounts in order to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Rest assured, if you have an existing account with Scotiabank, you can continue to use it as you have always done.

You are also free to switch to another account if one of them better meets your needs. Just speak to a Scotiabank representative, they will be happy to help you.

What is the difference between Everyday Bank Accounts and Savings Accounts?

Everyday Bank Accounts help you take care of your daily banking needs, such as make withdrawals, deposits, transfers, pay bills, do debit Point of Sale (POS) transactions, and write cheques. Overdraft protection is also available to help manage your monthly cash flow. You can bank any way you want, in person, at an ATM, online, or through Mobile or Telephone Banking.

Savings Accounts help you save for your goals, such as a new home, a car, or your children's education. These accounts pay you interest at a competitive rate so your savings can grow. When you save regularly in one of these accounts through an Automatic Savings Plan, you can receive bonus interest on your contributions.

Can I pay my bills through my Everyday Bank Accounts?

Absolutely. You can choose to pay your bills at the branch, through the ATM, online, or via Mobile or Telephone Banking.

What is Electronic Banking?

Electronic Banking (also known as Self-Service Banking) allows customers to bank through the Internet, Point of Sale (POS), Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and Mobile and Telephone Banking. Our Electronic Access Account allows you to do an unlimited number of self-service banking transactions for one low monthly fee. You just pay a fee if and when you visit a teller at the branch or write a cheque.

Can I switch from my existing account to another account?

Of course. It's free to switch to another account if one of them better meets your needs. Just speak to a Scotiabank representative, they will be happy to help you.

Why do you charge a monthly fee?

The monthly fee covers the costs associated with operating your account.

What is a Banking Plan?

Banking Plans allow you to combine the convenience of an Everyday Bank Account and the interest of a Savings Account for a flat monthly fee. It allows you to quickly and easily move money between your accounts through any of our convenient channels and it can save you money.

When you maintain the required minimum balance in your savings account, the monthly fee is waived.

How is interest calculated?

Interest on our Savings Account is calculated based on the minimum monthly balance in your account and is paid monthly. For further inquiries about specific interest rates contact your local Scotiabank branch.

How do I open an account(s) and what will I need to open the account?

What is an ASP/SSRP?

An Automatic Savings Plan (ASP) is a way to steadily grow your savings over time. It allows you to Pay Yourself First. Through the ASP, a set amount is transferred at selected dates to your destination account. There is no charge to set up an ASP on a Scotiabank account and the amount of the ASP contributions can be changed at any time.

The Scotiabank Savings Reward Plan (SSRP) rewards customers with bonus interest when they save regularly through an ASP. The bonus interest is based on your ASP contributions over a 1-year term, this is over and above our already competitive rate of interest earned on the account. The SSRP is only available on eligible accounts. Please speak to your Scotiabank representative for details.
